Chances are likely that if you have an iPod, you also have a lot of music. Chances are also likely that if this is the case, you have paid a lot of money for your music over time, and if you lose all your music, you’re probably going to be pretty annoyed. Whether you paid for your music by downloading individual songs or by burning CDs that you bought onto your computer, your music collection in iTunes and on your iPod represents a big investment.
You definitely want to protect that investment by backing up your computer. There are a few ways to do this. First, you can buy a separate hard drive that can hold all your music and important files. Save everything to this hard drive and then store it somewhere safe, remembering to take it out and update it with your newest files every few weeks or so.
Another way to back up your music is to store it all on your iPod. If you have an iPod that’s large enough to do this with, you can easily keep thousands of songs on your music device without putting a dent in its storage capabilities, and even some of the smaller iPods nowadays can hold hundreds or thousands of songs quite easily.
You may be wondering at this point how having the music on your iPod backs it up since you won’t be able to get it from your iPod to your computer in case of a crash. There is, however, software on the market now that lets you copy iPod to computer with ease. Using this software, you can recover from a computer crash by pulling all the music your iPod is storing back onto your computer, effectively repopulating your iTunes lists and not actually losing a single song in the process.
